Meet Kane County's New Director of Emergency Management

Kane County Connects Staff 1/10/2024 12:00PM

Scott Buziecki took the helm of Kane County's Office of Emergency Management last year with a wealth of law enforcement experience and leadership skills.    Buziecki came to Kane County from the North Aurora Police Department where he served for over 27 years, mostly recently as Deputy Chief and as the Village's emergency management coordinator.  He also holds a master's degree in organization development from Benedictine University and a Professional Development Series Certificate from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

In the four months with Kane County OEM, Buziecki has seemliness handled the transition while juggling multiple issues including the unannounced arrival of passenger buses from Texas carrying migrants on their way to Chicago and the first major snowstorm of 2024.

“I have a passion for emergency preparedness and working with the community, so I am very excited to work with our staff, volunteers, and municipal partners to make sure our residents and County are ready for whatever emergencies we might face," said Buziecki.

The Office of Emergency Management advocates for a comprehensive regional approach to disaster management and Homeland Security. This involves coordinating programs to enhance community planning, raise public awareness, and build effective capabilities for preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery.

OEM also has an active volunteer program.  Last year, the OEM corps of volunteers gave approximately 11,500 hours of their time preparing for and responding to emergencies in Kane County.
