Honoring Service: Kane County Veterans/War Memorials
Kane County is home to two prominent veterans memorials that serve as lasting tributes to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Kane County Soldier and Sailor Monument, dedicated in 1925, stands outside the historic courthouse in downtown Geneva at 100 South Third Street. Originally honoring Civil War veterans, it now commemorates Kane County residents who served in all wars. Flanked by two World War I naval guns—one from the U.S.S. New Orleans and the other from the U.S.S. Albany—the monument is a solemn reminder of the region’s long legacy of military service.
Just down the road at the Kane County Government Center, the Kane County Veterans Memorial was established in 1997 to honor all local service members, especially those who gave their lives in the 20th century. The memorial features the powerful "Citizen Soldier" statue and a Wall of Honor etched with the names of 843 Kane County men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
In a more recent tribute, the St. Charles East Side Post Office at 616 E. Main Street was officially renamed in 2024 as the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office. The renaming ceremony held on July 17 paid tribute to those who served in Vietnam.
