Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Fannie May

“Fall in love with a dog, and in many ways you enter a new orbit, a universe that features not just new colors but new rituals, new rules, a new way of experiencing attachment." – Caroline Knapp, American writer and columnist

She has that soulful look of a lost puppy probably because she was lost and she is a puppy. She was found running loose around a schoolyard looking for her owners who probably left her there on Valentine's Day!

Her name is Fannie May and her sweetness is all of 9-months-old, too young to have to survive on her own or try to subsist in this tough and hardened world.

A brown and white Pit Bull-mix, she is lucky she has a “squishable" face, one that is just waiting to be smooched and kissed and hugged. She already is very smart because she can give paw when asked and she knows how to sit on command.    Fannie May2.jpg

Her socialization skills with other dogs, however, is lacking, so she will definitely need training, as well as a patient family to teach her how to spend time with other dogs in social settings such as dog parks or on walks around the neighborhood.

Although she seems to like other dogs, she's not real sure how to interact with them. Based on her hesitancy, shelter staff suggest that Fannie May go to a home with no other animals, including cats.

She does seem to enjoy her squeaky toys, as well as a good round of “toss the tennis ball and fetch it." She also is fairly good on a leash, so getting in those long walks with her will help both of you keep up with that first of the year promise to get a cardio routine together.

Fannie May didn't deserve the hand she was dealt, but she is open to the opportunity to finally live a wonderful life with whoever decides that this little girl with the “squishable face" is going to be their very special fur-ever dog.
