It seems unfathomable!

Who could have imagined that a simple plan to take a leisurely walk in a forest preserve for some fresh air and exercise could end with finding abandoned puppies?   Maurice.2.jpg

That’s how Maurice was found — as part of a little family of puppies that somehow wound up in that forest preserve. He appears to be a 3-month-old mix of Australian Cattle Dog and Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier, which are two very energetic breeds. The amount of energy both breeds have passed on to him could probably supply a small town’s electrical needs!

Maurice’s fur is dappled with brown, white, and fawn-colored swatches. His ears protrude way beyond his head, as though he’s attempting to gather all the world’s sounds at the same time.

Maurice is a normal puppy in every way — even his stubborn streak, especially when he’s out for a walk. Sometimes he just doesn’t feel like taking that walk on that leash, so he plants all four paws and refuses to move. No worries — he’s a little guy, small enough to pick up and carry. Just make note: enrolling him in a puppy training class should be a top priority in giving him a forever home.

He likes squeaky toys, especially when someone squeaks it and then throws it. His little Australian Cattle Dog legs chase after it as he pounces to make it squeak again.

A true outdoorsman, Maurice enjoys chasing leaves just as much as playing with squeaky toys. And as everyone knows, they’re not that easy to catch during these windy spring days.

Other canines don’t seem to bother him. Quite the contrary — he seems infatuated with other dogs, especially those his size. He’s not averse to the larger ones either — just a bit more cautious around them.

Maurice is a very outgoing puppy, full of energy and personality.   maurice1.jpg

Thank goodness his time in the forest preserve was brief enough that it didn’t interfere with his puppy belief that everyone he meets must love him unconditionally.
