Kane County Probation Officer of the Year Honored During National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week
Each year, the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) recognizes the dedication of community corrections professionals during a week-long celebration. In 2025, National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week was observed from July 20–26.
Kane County Court Services marked the occasion with staff-organized gatherings , team-building activities and a day of service benefiting local residents. A highlight of the week was the presentation of the department's annual “Probation Officer of the Year" award — recognizing an individual whose service goes above and beyond the call of duty.
This year's honoree was Kim Reed, who was selected by a majority vote from her peers. Since joining Court Services in 2018, Reed has worked with Problem Solving Courts, supervised high-risk probation caseloads, and most recently served at the Aurora Probation Office, working with adult clients. Her background includes intake work at a local treatment center and a leadership role with a community support team.
With deep experience and a strong understanding of high-need populations, Reed has consistently demonstrated the skills, compassion and insight necessary to support even the most complex cases in reaching their court-ordered goals.
Kane County Court Services comprises adult and juvenile probation officers, pretrial officers, detention workers, and forensic psychologists. Together, the team supervises more than 9,000 court-involved individuals across the county.
Reed was formally recognized as “Probation Officer of the Year" during the August 12, 2025 Kane County Board meeting. The award was presented by Lisa Aust, Executive Director of Kane County Court Services, with full support from the Honorable Robert Villa, Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit.
