Kane County has officially declared October as Manufacturing Month, highlighting the vital role of manufacturing in the local and national economy. The International Trade Administration, along with U.S. government and industry partners, celebrates Manufacturing Month each year to showcase the innovation and impact of U.S. manufacturing, which contributes $2.9 trillion to the economy, employs nearly 12.9 million Americans, and accounts for 11% of GDP.

In Kane County, more than 375 metals and machinery firms employ over 9,500 people, while over 280 food and beverage manufacturers provide jobs for more than 13,000 workers. The County, in partnership with the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC), has launched programs to improve hiring pipelines and boost productivity through automation, career pathways, and operational efficiency.

Local manufacturers, schools, and organizations will host events around National Manufacturing Day on October 3, 2025, to showcase high-skilled, well-paying careers in the industry. The Kane County Economic Development Corporation will continue to support these efforts through the Lighthouse Manufacturing Program, strengthening the region’s manufacturing sector and promoting prosperity for the community.

A proclamation was accepted by Kathy Gilmore, President of the Valley Industrial Association (VIA), which represents over 200 manufacturers, supporting workforce development, education, and business growth across Northern Illinois.

The VIA, founded in 1902 as the Fox River Valley Manufacturer's Association, works with educational institutions, municipalities, and industry partners to connect manufacturers with students, provide workforce training, and promote careers in STEM and manufacturing.  VIA turns 123 years old in November 2025 with three founding members still involved in the organization.   They include Aurora Speciatly Textiles, Richard Willcox Inc. and Aurora Metals.
