The solar panels are expected to be installed in the coming weeks at the 10-acre solar field under construction at the Kane County Judicial Center. The project at the corner of Peck and Bricher Roads, behind the main courthouse, is part of Kane County's Green Initiative program.

It's estimated the 2-megawatt solar field project will provide  45% of the Judicial Center electricity needs, generating $200,000 in energy savings for the County annually.   SOLAR 1 2023.png

During a recent meeting of the Kane County Energy and Environmental Committee, members were updated on the progress of construction.

According to Ivy Klee, Kane County's Resource Management Coordinator, the concrete piles that will hold the solar panels have been installed, and work on the electrical component of the project is underway both out in the field and inside the judicial center.  The solar panels are on site and ready to be installed.

The project suffered a minor set back in April when there was an issue getting a shipment of needed electrical equipment.

There is no firm date for completion.
