Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Sparkler

KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 1/26/2026 7:00AM

“I have an obscene fascination with cats…It’s kind of embarrassing. But they’re so cute.” – Henry Golding, British-Malaysian actor & producer, Crazy Rich Asians

A smile appears on your face the minute you meet her. It must be magic because you definitely weren’t expecting to turn up the corners of your mouth right at that moment, but you did anyway!

That’s what happens when you’re introduced to 3-year-old Sparkler, a petite brown and black striped tabby. Her mere presence seems to make the burdens of the world a little lighter probably because she insists on greeting everyone she sees. It’s as though she has proclaimed herself the official public relations cat-greeter for KCAC!

Sparkler is a wonderful little kitty who gets along with other cats. Even at 3-years-old, she can act like a kitten if she wants, but she would much prefer taking naps in the cat tunnel, her go-to morning, noon and night activity.

Any time Sparkler isn’t around, just look inside the tunnel. And there she will be, asleep, perhaps dreaming of her forever home. Turn on any streaming fish aquarium channel and she’s a captive audience. Like any good parent, however, you might want to limit her time in front of the screen so she doesn’t miss her cat tunnel time or her meals.

Despite her small stature Sparkler has a very large personality. Her new family can expect that she will spend her life giving all she’s got to everyone she meets.

KCAC Update

Congratulations to Shrimp, the black and white Domestic Longhair found as a stray! His skittish days are finally behind him because his forever, fur-ever family came to adopt him right before the new year. His life is now filled with children’s laughter, petting sessions followed by long naps on someone’s lap and then maybe another round of cuddles. All of this and more because he is absolutely, unequivocally, at last, home.
