Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Kayla

Kane County Connects Staff KCAC’s Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 2/22/2024 3:00PM

“The great thing about being with, having a dog, is it kind of forces you to be in the present because that's definitely where they're spending their time." – Jennifer Aniston, actor

She's only 9-months-old.

She's too young to understand how she became a stray or why no one came to claim her.

We can only hope she doesn't remember the days when she had an owner, but not a forever family because this energetic black and white Lab-mix has nothing but sweetness built into her DNA. Her smile alone lights up a room and she seems to smile all the time.

Her name is Kayla and she's a happy girl. She loves everyone and thinks with all her might that everyone loves her. I mean, what's not to love?

Even though she's somewhat of a lightweight, not even breaking 35 pounds, she's an energetic little thing.   kayla smile.jpg

She must have skipped the training session on boundaries, however, because she doesn't have any. It's a “let's go!" all of the time, so obedience training is definitely in her future.

She seems to like other dogs but is kind of klutzy in attempting any socialization. She doesn't know how to properly greet other canines, but why would she? She obviously never received any direction in the months before she came to KCAC.

As the family's new companion, obedience training is a good way for everyone to bond with her and to keep the cues consistent. Through repetitive commands she will begin to understand her limits, which, right now, she doesn't think she has.

Imagine how much she will smile when she realizes she finally has that forever family!
