Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Louie

KCAC's Adorable, Adoptable Pet of the Week is written by Tecla Metzel of Kane County Animal Control. 5/1/2026 1:00PM

“A dog can't think that much about what he's doing, he just does what feels right." – Barbara Kingsolver, Pulitzer prize-winning American novelist, essayist & poet

He's 12-pounds of sheer energy, which means he probably has enough vim and vigor to go around the earth at least 10 times.

Of course, that's an exaggeration! In reality, he probably could only do 3 or 4 times because of his small size!    Louie smile.jpg

All kidding aside, Louie, a neutered male, tan and brown Yorkshire Terrier-mix, approximately 1-year and 3-months-old, came to KCAC as a stray.

When Louie looks into your eyes, you can see his very blue eye gazing into yours. It's not until you notice his other eye is brown that you realize he has “complete heterochromia," which is the scientific term for having one blue eye and one brown eye. No worries, it's just a harmless cosmetic trait that doesn't affect him in any way.

During his days as a stray, he must have felt a little uncertain as a small stray dog finding himself running down the mean streets of Main Street looking for shelter. The good news is that Louie is none the worse for wear!

Whatever happened to him “out there" hasn't stunted his desire at all for an active family to adopt him. It could even be more wonderful if they have a dog or two already at home because Louie appears to enjoy the company of other canines.

Toys don't seem to excite him much at all. He would prefer hanging out with other canines in the family and if there are people who might be willing to throw a ball for him, even better!

Chasing balls over and over and over again! What's not to like?

Louie has never met a leash that he likes. In other words, he's not trained on walking on one. He will fight with it every chance he gets as he jumps and pulls and spins. Getting him into training classes is definitely priority one for his forever family to consider.

Louie will make a wonderful companion for any family looking for a reason to take long walks, play tag in the backyard, throw a ball or maybe just sit for a while. And then, of course, it's even better, if you can do all of it all over again.

KCAC Pupdates

Congratulations to both Katara, the 8-month-old cream and black female Great Pyrenees-mix and her brother, Sokka, a black and white Great Pyrenees-mix. The same family adopted both of them, so we at KCAC couldn't be happier!

Both of them craved cuddling and pets from whomever was available, so here's hoping there are enough of those to go around and even more than you can handle, Katara!

Enjoy every moment!
