Kane County Welcomes 4-H Students for Government Day Experience
A group of local 4-H students recently stepped into the world of county government during Kane County’s annual 4-H Government Day, an educational event designed to give young people a firsthand look at public service and civic leadership.

Students from across Kane County spent part of their day at the county campus learning how local government operates and the many services it provides to residents. The program included attending the Kane County Forest Preserve Commission meeting and observing part of the Kane County Board meeting, where they saw elected officials discuss issues and make decisions that affect the community.
Beyond the meetings, the students also met with county staff and public safety professionals to learn about topics ranging from sustainability and environmental stewardship, GIS technology, 911 communications, transportation and infrasture, health and mental wellness and animal care. (see photo gallery below) The sessions provided a behind-the-scenes look at how different county departments work together to serve the public. Thank you to the Kane County Health Department, Kane County Division of Transportation, KaneComm, Kane County Animal Control, Kane County Recycles and Kane County GIS.
The experience is part of a long-standing partnership between Kane County and 4-H, the nation’s largest youth development organization. Through hands-on learning opportunities, 4-H helps young people develop leadership skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of civic responsibility.
To recognize the program and the young people participating, the Kane County Board also issued a proclamation designating March 10, 2026, as Kane County 4-H Government Day. The proclamation was read by three 4-H members.
