Given the patrolling nature of police work, it's not unusual for a police officer to be in the vicinity of an emergency situation and become the truly first responder to arrive.

Earlier this summer South Elgin Police Officer Daniel Taylor arrived within two minutes of a 911 call regarding a gentleman choking at a local restaurant. Officer Taylor immediately performed the Heimlich Maneuver.

The relieved choking victim's first words following the incident: "That officer saved my life." Mighty impressive, Officer Taylor! And congrats on your well-earned recognition during the August 15 Village Board of Trustees Meeting.

By the way, are you SEPD's next Officer Taylor? We're hiring! If you or someone you know is interested in a law enforcement career - within a supportive community with lots of opportunities in a solid young department, please take a look here: southelgin.com/policetesting
