Solar Switch is a free, voluntary program that aims to educate consumers about solar energy. In collaboration with Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and Will Counties (offered in Kendall and McHenry) local nonprofit organizations and solar industry experts, Solar Switch provides an opportunity for residents and business owners to discover the benefits of installing solar panels and have an opportunity to participate in unique group buying program at below market price.

Key Features of the Program:

  1. Education: The Solar Switch program offers consumers a chance to learn about the advantages of solar energy through informative sessions conducted by industry experts.
  2. Group Buying Power: By participating in the voluntary Solar Switch program, consumers can leverage the strength of group buying to access solar panels at below market prices.
  3. Regional Collaboration: The Solar Switch program works with Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will County to give individuals across the region the benefit of a shared commitment to renewable energy and sustainable living. The program is also offered to residents in McHenry and Kendall Counties.
  4. Partnerships with Nonprofit Organizations: The Solar Switch program is supported by a partnership between the counties, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), who will undertake joint community outreach and education efforts.

During the most recent program, participating households saved an average of $4,000 on a typical-sized solar installation. The combined federal and state tax credits can reduce costs by an additional 60%. The Solar Switch program provides an excellent opportunity for Chicagoland residents to take advantage of these savings and make the switch to renewable energy.

ABOUT

Solar Switch Chicagoland is a group-buying program that enables residential customers and small businesses to access solar energy. This initiative is made possible through our partnerships with Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will counties, as well as nonprofits MREA and CUB, and multiple municipalities and community

groups throughout the Chicago area. iChoosr, an independent solar group-buying specialist, manages the program. Since its inception in 2008, iChoosr has been actively promoting sustainable living and energy efficiency in five countries worldwide. Through its collective programs, over 2.2 million people have saved more than $760 million. To learn more about iChooser, call (512) 289-8644 or visit https://ichoosr.us/.

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was established shortly after the first annual Energy Fair in 1990. A membership-based organization, the MREA is dedicated to educating and demonstrating ways to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through its initiatives and programs. To learn more about MREA, call 715-592-6595 or visit www.midwestrenew.org.

The Citizens Utility Board (CUB), on the other hand, is a nonprofit utility watchdog that represents the interests of residential and small-business customers in Illinois. CUB was created by the Illinois Legislature in 1984 to help consumers save money and advocate for clean, low-cost energy. Through its efforts, CUB has saved consumers more than $20 billion by blocking rate hikes, securing refunds, and promoting sustainable energy. For more information, call CUB's Consumer Hotline, 1-800-669-5556, or visit its website, www.CitizensUtilityBoard.org.
