Kane County's Stormwater Manager is sharing information regarding an extended deadline to pay premiums for the National Flood Insurance program.  See below.

On November 14, 2025, the Assistant Administrator for Federal Insurance for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) released a memo detailing an extension of the grace period for payment of NFIP premiums to reduce the number of lapsed policies resulting from the recent federal shutdown. The memo can be found here:

Because the NFIP experienced a lapse in program authority, it was not authorized to issue new policies or renewal offers beginning October 1, 2025. This lapse impacted the program’s ability to send underpayment and renewal notices. To address underpayment concerns, FEMA included a grace period for policyholders who are required to make an additional premium payment after receiving an underpayment notice.

To reduce the risk of coverage gaps caused by the NFIP program lapse, FEMA has extended the standard 30-day grace period for receipt of renewal payments following a policy’s expiration date. Accordingly, any renewal payment due from a policyholder on or after October 1, 2025, is now due on the later of January 15, 2026, or the date determined by the standard renewal terms of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy.

For example:

If a policy term ended on: The grace period would have ended: But now runs until:
October 1, 2025 October 30, 2025 January 15, 2026
October 15, 2025 November 13, 2025 January 15, 2026
November 15, 2025 December 14, 2025 January 15, 2026
December 1, 2025 December 30, 2025 January 15, 2026
January 1, 2026 January 30, 2026

January 30, 2026

If your policy expired during this timeframe, please contact your insurance agent to ensure there is no gap in coverage.
