Every household should contain a cat, not only for decorative and domestic values, but because the cat in quiescence is medicinal to irritable, tense, tortured men and women.” – William Lyon Phelps, American author, critic and scholar.

Are you feeling stressed due to today’s fast-paced, topsy-turvy world? Does it feel as though you’re stuck in the real-life version of the film Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) with no way out?

Do you wish there was at least something to bring down your heart rate as you attempt to cope with the day-to-day insanity? Well, my friends, look no further than Dirty Dan, a possibly 1-year-old, male, orange and white tabby Domestic Longhair with a bad haircut.

Dan was found as a stray and turned over to KCAC. He obviously was someone’s pet, but no one came forward to claim him. Dan has a very laid-back, “chill” personality which affects everyone he’s around. His favorite pastimes are lying around, looking out the windows of the cat room, contemplating life, getting petted and then relaxing again after all the looking, watching and attention-seeking behavior.

He enjoys playing with a few toys, but he’s more into just getting petted and sitting on someone’s lap to make sure they know he’s available for pets. Study after study has been published, including a report in Harvard Health Publishing, that relates the benefits of owning a pet, cat or dog, to lowering the possibility of having cardiovascular disease or a heart attack. Cat owners, especially, seem to benefit the most from owning a feline friend, even those that no longer live with one, but did in the past compared to those who had never owned a cat.

And as for Dirty Dan’s bumpy hairdo, whoever gave him the impromptu grooming session probably thought they were doing him a favor at the time. His hair will eventually grow out. When it does, he will need some brushing sessions along with his every day pets, cuddles and hugs. That’s actually exactly what the doctor ordered!
