The Kane County Health Department recommends talking with your health care provider about getting an annual flu vaccine to help reduce the risk of influenza and its potentially serious complications.

Flu vaccination can prevent millions of illnesses and medical visits each year. During the 2024–2025 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates vaccination prevented 10 million flu-related illnesses, 5 million medical visits, 180,000 hospitalizations and 12,000 deaths nationwide.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu vaccines vary in effectiveness from season to season, but studies show vaccination can reduce the risk of a flu-related doctor's visit by 40% to 60% when vaccine viruses closely match those circulating.
