Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Shrimp
“Cats are the small rays of light who brighten our days for a short time." – Connie Willis, American science fiction & fantasy writer
He's a black and white neutered Domestic Longhair, only about 2-years-old. His golden eyes betray the lifetimes lived in those years as he lived trying to survive, always searching for that place to belong but somehow never quite getting there.

His name is Shrimp. A stray found with another stray; two cat souls searching for the same thing. A home, a safe place where he could fall asleep and know his days of survival were over.
He never aspired to fitting the description of “an outside cat." It just happened because humans tend to make decisions and then explain the consequences away as though it was totally the cat's idea, “Well, he wants to be outside."
Maybe he wouldn't act so skittish if he knew he had a permanent place, a forever home to watch the world go by. Maybe he could even watch the squirrels and birds before his next nap later in the day.
It would be that kind of home, where there are others around, so he's not so alone, where he can get cuddled and petted and brushed when he wants to get petted, cuddled and brushed.
It would be that kind of home where it's warm when the weather is cold and cool when the weather is hot. There would be a few toys to play with, maybe even one of the humans could play with him, or he might even play with one of the other felines in the home.
Shrimp has a mind of his own, enjoys being lazy sometimes, lying on someone's lap, getting petted until he doesn't want any more.

He may take his time getting to know other cats in the home, but, if his new family is willing to ease him into their world at his own pace, then Shrimp is ready to finally be safe.
