
Applications Open for Vacancy in Kane County Board District 2
Kane County is accepting applications for the position of Kane County Board Member for District 2 serving portions of North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva and Aurora. This vacancy is due to the passing of Board Member Dale Berman.
The position is an elected office with duties outlined in the Illinois Counties Code (55 ILCS 5/1-1001 et seq.) and the Kane County Code.
Under Illinois law, when a vacancy occurs on the Kane County Board, it must be filled by an appointment of the Chairman of the County Board with the advice and consent of the County Board. The individual appointed must be a member of the same political party as the person the appointee succeeds (10 ILCS 5/25-11). The appointee will serve until the next general election on November 3, 2026, when the position will be filled by election for the remainder of the term, which ends in December 2028. The process for election to fill the office for the remainder of the term at the next general election is set forth in the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/1-1 et seq.).
All Kane County Board Members also serve as members of the Kane County Forest Preserve District Commission.
To be eligible for appointment, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Be a member of the Democratic Party
• Be a registered voter
• Reside within District 2 (View District 2 Map Here)
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have been a resident of Kane County for at least one year
