Members of the Kane County Board's Public Health Committee held their regularly scheduled December meeting inside a portion of the county's new government satellite office complex in Elgin. The building is part of Kane County's long-term vision to make county services more accessible to residents in the northern part of the county.     public health committee 1225 2.jpg

Kane County's primary government seat is located in Geneva at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave.

In 2024, the Kane County Board approved the purchase of a one-story, approximately 45,000-square-foot building in Elgin for $2.8 million. Located at 2170 Point Blvd., near the Interstate 90 and Randall Road interchange, the facility now houses satellite offices for the Kane County Health Department (KCHD) and the Kane County Clerk, with additional county services planned for the future.

The committee meeting took place in a portion of the building now occupied by KCHD, where members received updates on services currently available to the public, plans for future improvements, and the long-term vision for the space. The Elgin satellite office is designed to complement the department's primary location in Aurora at 1240 N. Highland Ave., while significantly expanding access to public health services for residents in and around the Elgin area.

The office houses staff from KCHD's Environmental Health Division, which conducts inspections of restaurants and other food providers and manages environmental health permits and fees. In addition, the Elgin location will support communicable disease investigation and disease reporting services and, once fully built out, will offer clinical services such as immunizations and counseling.

Plans for the facility also include a large conference space and additional meeting rooms that will be available for use by the county and community partners to host events and programs.

KCHD is supported by a team of more than 80 public health professionals, including nurses, epidemiologists, health educators, environmental health specialists, social workers, and administrative staff. In recent years, the department has invested more than $8 million in local behavioral health providers, trained hundreds of residents in life-saving skills, strengthened infection prevention practices in long-term care facilities, and conducted more than 3,500 food inspections to help ensure public safety. Public health educators have also reached families, schools, and communities with resources focused on mental health, child wellness, and environmental safety.      public health committee 1225 4.jpg

With satellite locations in Kane County's major population centers of Aurora and Elgin, county leaders say the expanded footprint fulfills a commitment to improving community health across Kane County.
